Chapter X – Soulmate Part I

Darkness had claimed the light of day several hours prior. The night creatures stirred restlessly and scampered along their path, the trees howled in the passing wind yet nothing could intimidate this particular man as he strolled along the bank of the river. His hands clasped behind his back, he followed the river’s edge, gazing at the water hoping to find some answers, some kind of insight into his questions. He reached up to scratch his reddish beard that was speckled with gray then let his fingertips trace across his forehead. An audible sigh escaped his mouth as Obi-Wan continued to remain lost in his thoughts. Not far ahead, he could see a large rock that seemed to beckon to him, inviting him to rest his mind and body – even as he reminisced back in time…

They had just returned from a routine patrol and were quietly walking through the lush trees that were a mainstay of Endor. Immense trees that reached high into the sky, their branches swaying with the light breeze, allowing a number of leaves to scatter onto the ground. The Jedi and Padawan walked along a barely visible path, each thought separate from one another.

Sakoya had proven herself to be an eager apprentice to not only Obi-Wan but Master Yoda. At first he thought the aged Master would refuse the petition, after all, she was a grown woman but time and circumstance had altered the diminutive Jedi’s opinion. Hundreds upon hundreds of Jedi had been lost since the beginning of the war with the Empire. Count Dooku had been extremely thorough in eliminating Jedi across the galaxy before he had ultimately met his demise through Anakin Skywalker.

Although she was already an accomplished pilot, Anakin had instructed her in the finer points of flying, namely the X-Wings and it hadn’t been an arduous task.

Each of them assisted in training the woman whose past had remained just that – her past. She refused all inquiries sufficing to simply say her history was no longer a part of her present. Her gentle soul belied any thoughts of hidden corruption and Master Kenobi found an inexplicable ease in her presence he couldn’t deny.

The Jedi’s weapon – the elegant lightsaber, its construction a requirement by each Padawan to prove their proficiency and understanding with the Force. While on a mission with Master Kenobi, Sakoya had come upon an emerald so bedazzling she knew it was the one to embed into her lightsaber and found a unique way to acquire it. In a gesture of gratitude, Obi-Wan had received an ornate box from the ruler on Rutan, who supported the Alliance, for his successful mediation to the heated debate. Not wishing to insult the monarch, Obi-Wan graciously accepted the gift before departing the planet. Upon opening the box after he returned to Endor, the Jedi Master found himself in a quandary over what to do with the precious jewels contained within.

“Beautiful!” Sakoya beamed as she stared at the sparkling jewels.

“They are stunning. I’m sure they can be used in place of credits somehow to help the Alliance.” Obi-Wan shrugged.

It was then that Sakoya espied the emerald. She picked it up and examined it – brilliant in color and flawless to her naked eye. “A perfect counterpart” she whispered, “for my new lightsaber.”

The Jedi Master smirked in amusement. She may be a Padawan but she’s still a woman, he silently mused. “Is that all you require to finish your lightsaber?” he questioned.

Sakoya barely heard the question and simply nodded her head. Whether it was in response to Obi-Wan’s inquiry or not, the Jedi Master had no idea. In spite of himself, he smiled at her fascination and told her, “You may have it.”

Sakoya’s head jerked up and she smiled brightly. “I-I can? Oh, thank you Master Obi-Wan!” she exclaimed and threw her arms around the Jedi’s neck, holding him close. Suddenly embarrassed, she withdrew her arms and backed away. “I-I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.”

Finding himself flustered, Obi-Wan said, “I’ll take this to Master Yoda.”

In the years that had passed since their first meeting, Obi-Wan had grown very enamored of Sakoya Jade...

The Jedi Master stopped a moment, trying to collect his thoughts…a movement he found useless. Resigning himself, he sat down and closed his eyes, wishing he didn’t feel so inexplicitly alone. Yet am I? He asked himself then smirked, recalling how he once embraced solitude and welcomed the peace it brought to him. A peace now turned into turmoil as that pleasure had lost its comfort. His green eyes reflected the conflict within and the ensuing battle of wills taking place. As far back as he could remember, he found contentment without emotional attachments, at least ones of a romantic nature. Through the years of study and growth at the Jedi Temple, he had formed many friendships, though none as unique as the one he found in Anakin Skywalker. Too many of the Jedi he befriended had perished either from Count Dooku’s hand or the Empire itself over the years. Was he destined to such a solitary existence? Such thoughts plagued him more every day…

Very unJedilike, Obi-Wan Kenobi, he would chastise himself. Why am I doubting the will of the Force?

Yet he watched his best friend and former Padawan – so mollified all these years – and couldn’t help contemplating if his life was incomplete. Am I missing something so vital? Am I blind to my own needs? Do I even know what those needs are? He wondered. I’ve never had to deal with this type of dilemma before, well, except for Anakin…he reflected. Again, his thoughts drifted to a particular woman with fiery red hair who had made his heart race from the first moment he laid eyes on her. Never before had someone unwittingly affected his heart or mind, driving him forward to a point he couldn’t deny or resist. He remembered the day well and it produced a smile on his face…

The X-Wing’s engines whined down as the controls were shut off and the canopy opened. Obi-Wan hurried over to the fighter, expecting to see Anakin crawl out and was greeted instead by a stunning woman whose eyes captured his and held them fast.

Sakoya stared into the deep emerald pools before her, unable to look away. “I-I’m sorry. You must be looking for Jedi Skywalker.” She stammered in a sultry voice.

“Yes.” Obi-Wan answered, unwilling to break his hold on her.

“H-he should be landing soon. He’s on the freighter…”

“Yes.”

Sakoya smiled brightly at the Jedi before her. She didn’t know why but he suddenly felt familiar to her, like she knew him from long ago. “I’m Sakoya Jade and you are?” she inquired, her voice soft and subtle as she climbed down from the X-Wing, managing to keep her gaze locked on the Jedi Master.

Obi-Wan finally shook himself free of his mesmerizing stare. “I do apologize. I am Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Obi-Wan felt his cheeks flush. The turmoil in his stomach was something new to him and it wasn’t caused by sickness. He reached out his hand and placed it in her own, emasculated by her touch. “Where is Anakin?” He asked, already forgetting what she had told him.

Sakoya took a deep breath; just the mere holding of this man’s hand in a handshake had made her body tingle. “H-he’s on the freighter. He asked me to fly his ship here.” Sakoya reluctantly withdrew her hand, embarrassed. She felt like a nervous young girl but his touch simply intoxicated her. Oh, so smooth and gentle, she shivered at the thought. “He mentioned that I should be tested for Jedi training.”

Affirmation came over him as he nodded slightly. That was the connection, Obi-Wan thought, I should have known but her beauty captivated me and I sense such tenderness in her soul. Obi-Wan tucked his thoughts away into the safe confines of his mind. Still, he felt an incredible connection to this woman he had just met. Am I senile? How can I think this way after just meeting her? Perhaps meditation is in order. Then again, maybe I have been around Anakin too long, he scolded himself and once again the professional façade returned. “If Anakin believes you should be tested then I will make the arrangements. In the meantime, I will find some accommodations for you.”

He reminisced about the events of that day, a day that seemed to take place so long ago, and realized then – as now – that his life had forever changed. Never once did he encourage Sakoya Jade into a liaison with him nor did she, although the electricity surrounding them when they trained or were assigned missions together was unmistakable. Reluctantly, he had always forced his feelings, those damned emotions, he would tell himself, into seclusion. His unvoiced feelings had never wavered in spite of the passage of time. Obi-Wan Kenobi was unsure just when those feelings had turned into something much more potent, more undeniable and the suffering he had entailed to mask those very emotions were now coming to the forefront, demanding to be ignored no longer…

“Perhaps we’ve been wrong all along.” He buried his head into his hands.

Soft footsteps echoed in the evening air as they came closer but Obi-Wan had already sensed the approaching figure and let out a discernible sigh.

Slender hands grasped his shoulders from behind and gently massaged the strained muscles. “Wrong about what?”

Obi-Wan didn’t need to look back, he knew that presence, that voice – it had a habit of visiting his dreams. “About a few things, Sakoya.” His heart began to palpitate.

“Why are you so tense, Master Obi-Wan? Your shoulders feel like rocks!”

The Jedi still held fast to his aching head, not knowing how to respond.

“What troubles you my friend?”

Friend. The word almost made him laugh. Is that all I am to her, a friend? Can it be more? How can I go against the very code that has been ingrained inside me, has been my core my entire life? But I cannot function this way any longer, not with her so near…

She began to gently rub his shoulders that were as tense as a Gundark. “How can I –”

“Help?” He interrupted her, a hint of anger in his voice.

Sakoya’s face flushed but she continued the massage. “If you let me…”

He sighed heavily a second time. She didn’t deserve his rebuke and he regretted it. As if on cue, something crawled out of the depths of his mind – giving him the answer.

Sakoya felt the emotion welling up inside him; something she’d felt before but this time it was…different. “Talk to me Obi-Wan.”

Without taking the time to think, Obi-Wan took hold of one of her hands and guided her around until she was in front of him then took hold of both of her hands and stood. “I don’t want to ‘talk’,” he said huskily.

Sakoya’s green eyes gleamed, “Nor do I.” She drew him closer and with a slow intensity, lightly brushed her lips to his. The sensation made her body burn with desire and she desperately wanted more of that feeling. She kissed him lightly again but this time he responded, albeit hesitantly.

“I’m…not…well versed…in these situations.” He barely got the words out of his mouth. “I’m terrified…” he whispered, staring into her beautiful eyes.

“There’s nothing to be frightened of, love.” She gently massaged his hands.

Love? Did she mean it? Had she only referred to him as a friend for his own sake? Obi-Wan moaned. For the first time in many years, the Jedi Master was confused, somewhat lost and unsure of himself and his heart was thumping in his chest. He could feel the adrenaline coursing through him like wildfire and realized it wasn’t about to be tamed.

“Let me in Obi, let yourself feel.” She whispered in his ear while her arms tentatively slid up his back.

Yes, she had, he answered his own question. A tear found its way down his cheek, he adored this woman and wanted nothing more than be with her but he didn’t quite know how to do it or if he could.

Sakoya kissed his cheek and the stray tear. “I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.” She brought one of her hands up to his face and stroked it softly.

“Y-you’re not. I…” Words failed him and made him more miserable.

“I’ll help you, if you let me.” Her eyes bore into him, penetrating the area that shielded his soul.

“Sakoya…I…I…” his voice trailed off.

“Hush.” She put her fingers to his lips. Endless days and nights of torment for both of them had led them to this night. It was time to end the agony they both suffered. She moved his hands to her waist, her lithe body wanting to explode from the excitement building inside her. Diffidently, she edged closer and kissed him again, gingerly, then moved to his cheeks, his forehead and back to his mouth again but this time he didn’t hold back. It took mere seconds as his grip on her waist tightened and he began kissing her, passionately.

“Why did I wait so long?” He groaned, their lips barely parted. “I’ve wanted to touch you, be with you for an eternity.”

“What matters is now, Obi, not the past.” Sakoya’s breathing had quickened, her heart felt as if it would leap from her chest.

“If I told you I loved you, would you believe it?” Obi-Wan’s eyes glistened in the soft moonlight.

Sakoya smiled brightly, “If I told you the same thing, would you believe me?”

Laughter broke out between them both and suddenly Obi-Wan felt at ease. No more apprehension, no more doubts, just the wonderful feelings that were erupting like a volcano in his chest.

Obi-Wan woke the next morning believing he had just experienced the most wonderful of dreams and would have continued to believe that had he not noticed a warm body in his bed next to him. It did happen, it wasn’t a dream! His eyes went wide at his silent thoughts. Sakoya stirred and rolled toward him, draping her arm across his bare chest. She stirred some more then opened her eyes.

“Morning sunshine.” She blinked a few times; her eyes adjusting to the morning glare streaming through the window.

“Did we…was I dreaming?”

Sakoya grinned fiendishly, “Yes, my dear Jedi, we did. No, you’re not dreaming or at least if you are, you have a tendency to do it with your eyes open and talking.”

Obi-Wan turned onto his side, facing the woman who had captured his heart and more. “No, I don’t think I’m dreaming – not anymore – but I wouldn’t mind a reminder.” His grin stretched from ear to ear.

“I believe” she reached over and kissed him, “we can arrange that.”

Obi-Wan didn’t require any more prodding and gave way to his newly awakened passions.

Chapter X – Soulmate Part II

The Skywalker family relocated to Endor from Alderaan in spite of Bail Organa’s entreatment to stay. Padmé felt her presence would be more beneficial to the extensive new base and her family would no longer be a threat to her old friend, considering Tarkin and his minions continued to make their presence known at sporadic intervals.

It was mid-morning as Anakin tapped the door to his mentor’s home and let himself in. They had a meeting with Master Yoda soon and since Obi-Wan, who was always so punctual, hadn’t come by yet, Anakin came to get him. He strolled into the kitchen and made himself at home, munching on a piece of bread.

“What’s keeping him?” Anakin mused, as he made his way toward Obi-Wan’s bedroom. He considered a bucket of water would rouse his friend then dismissed the thought only to find himself carrying a glass filled with liquid as he strolled along. “Hey, c’mon, we’re going to be late.” Anakin blurted, using the Force to reverse the flow of water that he had just tossed at the Master Jedi. He blushed, realizing his mistake, and quickly backed out of the room. Within moments, the Jedi was laughing hysterically.

“It seems our little secret is no longer a secret.” Obi-Wan blushed.

“Oh,” Sakoya touched his cheek, “you know you wouldn’t be able to keep it from him, not for long.”

Obi-Wan chuckled, “No, I guess not.” He glanced toward the door and shouted, “I’m glad he finds this so amusing.”

“C’mon Ben!” Anakin shouted in between his bouts of laughter. “We’ll be late.”

The Jedi Master’s eyes went wide, “Our meeting with Yoda.” He sprang from the bed and quickly donned his traditional Jedi clothing. “And stop calling me that you ingrate, that name is reserved for your kids!” He shouted again.

Sakoya found the mornings activities entertaining, particularly this portion of it. Not bothering to cover herself, she got up and flung her arms around Obi-Wan’s neck. “I’ll see you later,” she whispered, kissing him deeply then went to retrieve her clothes and get dressed.

“Count on it.” He smiled, admiring the view Sakoya would leave ingrained in his mind and walked out of the room.

“Well?” Anakin was grinning like a Cheshire cat.

The Jedi Master ignored him.

“I’mmm waitinggg.” Anakin teased.

Obi-Wan tilted his head at his friend. “I don’t have to share anything with you!” He stated defensively.

“After all these years and sticking to the code! Yoda is going to fall out of his chair! You may be at fault for his resulting concussion!” Anakin found himself laughing so hard he had to brace himself against the wall.

“I’m not telling him…not yet.” The Jedi Master stated indignantly.

“Ah ha, admission!”

Obi-Wan slapped Anakin in the arm.

“Oh, the pain,” the Jedi pretended to wince.

“Yes, you are.”

Anakin grinned, “So, was it worth it?”

The Jedi Master took a deep breath and a smile slowly crept across his face. He was happy, ecstatic, overjoyed. The bliss he was experiencing couldn’t be defined nor put into proper words – his emotions poured forth, free from their bondage and bathed him with an incandescent light.

“Without a doubt.” He avowed, opening the door and stepping outside.

Anakin was elated as he followed after his former Master. “Padmé is going to be thrilled! She’s been waiting for this to happen. She’s seen the way you look at Sakoya.”

Obi-Wan stopped and turned around, his eyes wide, “I’ve been that obvious?” he asked, unnerved by his actions.

Anakin put his hand on his friend’s shoulder. “She’s a woman, she can see these kinds of things that us dumb guys are oblivious too.”

“Do you think Yoda has seen it as well?” Obi-Wan wondered, his agitation evident.

“He might have, a little,” Anakin shrugged, “but probably dismissed it. You’ve never been the one he’s worried about – that’s my job.”

Obi-Wan laughed. A much needed laugh as they continued their walk toward Master Yoda’s abode.

“He did what?” Padmé was astonished at her husband’s news. “Well, all I can say is it’s about time!”

“That’s pretty much what I told him.” Anakin laughed as he reached for his wife and wrapped his arms around her slim waist. “Why don’t we have them over for dinner? Ease Obi into this.”

Padmé gave him a look of surprise. “Anakin Skywalker, are you trying to play matchmaker?”

“No,” he grinned devilishly, “they already took care of that. I just want to make sure it stays. He’s needed someone for a long time but wouldn’t admit to how lonely he’s been all these years.”

Padmé caressed his cheek, “I have such a romantic for a husband.”

Anakin flushed and tightened his grip on her, “Only for you, my dear.” He slowly bent down and kissed her longingly.

************************************

The Jedi Master sat next to a beautiful red-haired woman on the couch, a simultaneous look of apprehension and gratification raced across his face. He started to put his arm around her shoulder then stopped and instead rested his hands in his lap. Sakoya smiled but said nothing, she knew the situation was still new for him and just sitting next to him made her glow.

Padmé brought him a drink, which he gladly accepted. The plethora of emotions coursing through him made the Jedi very thirsty and eager to occupy his mind elsewhere. He took a long draw of the light brown liquid and immediately began coughing as if he were choking. “Force woman, what’d you put in that? Are you trying to kill me?”

Everyone found humor in his outburst except Obi-Wan and his face flushed crimson.

“Sorry darling, had I known how thirsty you were I would have given you water, not a drink.” Padmé apologized.

“It’s good, whatever it is.” Obi-Wan sniffed inside the glass. “But a warning would have been nice.”

“Suffice it to say it’s one of my own creations. Secret ingredients. Want another?”

Obi-Wan blanched, “I think I’ll sip this one for a while… You aren’t trying to get me drunk, are you?”

“Whatever gave you that idea?” Anakin smiled mischievously.

Obi-Wan turned to Sakoya, “Are you part of this conspiracy too?”

She laughed and held up her hands defensively, “No, but maybe I should be. You need to relax, remember – you’re with friends.”

Obi-Wan grimaced, “With friends like these,” he indicated to Padmé and Anakin, “who needs enemies?”

Just then Luke came strolling into the room. “Where’s mine?”

Padmé gave her son an evil stare, “You’re not old enough for this.”

“Aww, Mom.” Luke looked to his Dad for help. “C’mon Dad. I’m twenty for crying out loud!”

“Sorry son,” Anakin chuckled, “you have to argue that one with the Queen here. I can’t help you.”

Luke knew that argument would fall on deaf ears and decided to change the subject. “Did you tell Mom yet?”

“Um no. Not yet. Aren’t you supposed to be out with Genne or somebody?” Anakin stared at his son as if warning him not to say anything more then looked down, refusing to meet his wife’s gaze.

“So much for a relaxing evening.” Obi-Wan blurted out.

“Anakin?” Padmé was maintaining her calm then turned to his mentor, “Obi-Wan?”

The two Jedi exchanged uneasy glances.

“You tell her.” Anakin urged the Jedi Master.

Obi-Wan shook his head, “Not my wife or son. You tell her.”

“It wasn’t MY idea.” Anakin shot back.

“No,” Obi-Wan chuckled, the alcohol in his drink was beginning to take effect, “it was Master Yoda’s.”

Irritated, Padmé put her hands on her hips. “One of you Jedi better tell me now or else!”

In spite of his father’s glare, Luke chimed in. “Master Yoda wants me to fly the next patrol that Dad goes out on. Ben will be there too.”

Padmé just stood open mouthed, not knowing what to say.

“He’s proven what an adept pilot he is.” Anakin tried to defend himself as well as his son.

“And Master Yoda feels confident in his Jedi abilities.” Obi-Wan added.

‘Master Yoda’ is NOT a parent!” Padmé fumed.

“It’s just a routine patrol to let him get a feel of what it’s like. He needs this, it’s time.”

“I’ve been on a lot of training flights. I can handle this Mom.” Luke stated confidently. “I’m ready.”

Padmé turned toward her husband, “Jedi Skywalker. A moment alone, please.”

Uh oh, there it was again. Referring to him that way, Anakin knew he was in for a tongue-lashing.

Padmé paced the length of the floor, her skirt swishing with her irritated movements. “What are you thinking? He’s only twenty!” She angrily confronted Anakin behind the closed door of their bedroom.

“Beloved,” he stopped her and took hold of her trembling hands, “Other pilots have joined the Alliance at his age, earlier even, and are very competent. Why are you so frightened?”

Long chocolate tresses fell forward, hiding the face beneath as Padmé bowed her head. So the day has finally come, she silently mused as her head moved back and forth. She dreaded every moment of this, as she knew she would. Padmé took a deep breath hoping to slow the pace of her wildly beating heart and looked up at her husband. “Anakin, I fear for you each time you go out on a mission.” Anakin tried to console her by wrapping his arms around his wife but she stopped him. “No, listen to me! We live in such precarious times that I can’t help but wonder if I’ll be gazing upon you for the last time when you leave on a mission. Yavin 4 and the transport then the duel with Dooku – it nearly sent me over the edge. I know I shouldn’t think that way…what we both do is important for the Alliance but…I just get fearful. Now that Luke is grown…maybe I just don’t want to let my baby go.” She turned away, not wanting him to see the tears forming in her eyes.

“Angel,” Anakin reached out to her, “please…” When she refused to face him, he tried to gather her into his arms but she had folded her arms across her chest, attempting to remain defiant. “Padmé,” he whispered huskily into her ear, still trying to hold her to him. “Don’t… Please don’t beloved.”

He could feel the tension emanating from her and closed his eyes, reaching into the Force then directed waves of calm and love toward his wife. Finally, she relented to his embrace. “You really fear the Sith, don’t you?” he asked.

Slowly, she turned around and looked up into his expressive blue eyes, “Yes. Sidious wants revenge for Dooku’s death and he won’t be satisfied until you are crushed beneath his feet! If he ever caught Luke, he would have the power over you, over us, he needs.”

“Or Leia. She could be attending a meeting on Alderaan or somewhere else and get imprisoned by the Empire. It’s the same thing.”

Padmé bowed her head and began to vent her chagrin. “I wish we could just crush the Empire! I’m so tired of it all. Tired of hiding. Tired of fearing for our children.” Angrily, her fists pounded against her husband’s broad chest – her frustration bubbling over.

“I’ve never seen you so afraid of someone before.” Anakin tightened his hold on her and the pounding stopped. Gently he lifted her chin to look into her eyes. “You, who fears no one. My strong and spirited wife, the one who single-handedly fended off Mynocks.”

Padmé shivered at the memory, “Ugh, don’t remind me of those slimy creatures.” She rested her head against his chest, took a few deep breaths then looked up into the blue irises she loved so dearly. “My treasure, motherhood tends to change perspectives, especially when it directly involves your children.”

“I know.” Anakin stroked her silky brown hair. “But you have to let them grow up.”

Padmé once more buried her head in his chest and sighed, not bothering to wipe away the tears that slowly trailed down her cheek.

************************************

“Should we leave?” Sakoya was feeling a little uncomfortable.

“I don’t hear anything breaking so we’re probably okay.” Obi-Wan smiled then took notice of the serious look on her face. “Feel with the Force, feel the emotions coming from them. It’s more of anxiousness and fear not anger.”

“Should we leave them alone?”

“Mom will be okay. She just doesn’t want to let me go yet.” Luke answered. “Right, Ben?”

“I would venture that possibility.”

“So when did you two become a couple? I thought Dad was the only one who broke the code.”

“Luke, sometimes your bluntness is very painful.”

Sakoya smiled, she couldn’t wait to hear this explanation.

Luke sat down on a chair across from one of his mentors, waiting.

“Your parents relationship has finally convinced this old man that I was missing something in my life. Something that was right under my nose…” he glanced over at Sakoya.

“Are you saying the Jedi code forbidding marriage is wrong?” Luke pressed.

Obi-Wan considered this a moment, he wanted to answer it carefully. “There are different types of people, Luke. Those who can master their emotions and are quite happy leading a life without intimate companionship like Master Yoda. Then there are those who require that intimacy for their own growth and self-preservation like your father. I was happy and content for many years. I didn’t even consider intimacy with another person – it never crossed my mind – at least until I saw it on such a personal level with your parents. Your father is the ‘Chosen One’ and my guidance wasn’t enough for him. He had grown up with a mother who deeply loved and nurtured him. When he was taken away from that to become a Jedi our ‘cold world’ was miserable for him. I never understood why because I always tried to be someone he could look up to. I tried to bridge the gap on an emotional level but it wasn’t what he needed. He needed the unconditional love that your mother was able and willing to provide. I’ve watched him grow and prosper over the years and slowly found myself wondering about that kind of intimacy and acceptance. Something I never craved before until it was unexpectedly thrust upon me. He was able to stay so focused as a Jedi but when it came to your mother, he melted. We all know very well who rules the Skywalker house.” Obi-Wan laughed.

“So would you say that you found your little bit of paradise?”

Obi-Wan smiled and looked at the woman beside him. His eyes became glassy and he slowly nodded. “Yes. I believe I have.”

Luke grinned. “Looks like you’re stuck Sakoya.”

She nodded, barely acknowledging the young man’s comment. She brought her head closer and locked her lips to the man she’d been dreaming of for so long.

“I guess that’s my cue. Tell Dad I went out for a bit.” Luke excused himself and headed for the door. He glanced back and smiled as he saw Ben’s arms wrapped around the woman who had stolen his heart. “I’m truly happy for you both,” then walked out the door.
